01Technical introduction
Odourless DOP (O.D.O.P): overview
Odourless DOP (O.D.O.P) is a high-purity grade of di-octyl phthalate, the general-purpose plasticizer for flexible PVC. It is specified at a G.C. ester purity of 99.8 % minimum, colour of 20 Hazen units maximum, and an odourless profile, which is what makes it suitable for goods that are handled, worn or smelled by the end user.
As a plastic processing chemicals supplier, we publish the full characteristic table on this page, with the test method for each value, so your quality team can compare it directly against an incoming-inspection plan.
Benefits
- Published 99.8 % minimum ester purity (G.C.), the highest of our three primary plasticizers.
- Odourless specification, useful for consumer-contact flexible PVC goods.
- Low colour (20 Hazen units max), including after heat treatment at 180 °C for 2 hours.
- Low moisture (0.1 % max by Karl Fischer) and acid value (0.01 % max as phthalic acid).
- Controlled relative volatility (0.4 % max at 180 °C / 20 min).

Technical data sheet (TDS), certificate of analysis (COA) and safety data sheet (SDS) availability depends on the grade and source. Ask for the documents you need when you request a quote and we will confirm what can be supplied for your order.
05Storage and handling
Storage and handling
- Store in tightly closed, clean and dry containers, away from direct heat, sunlight and ignition sources.
- Keep away from strong oxidisers, strong acids and bases; keep containers off bare ground and clear of drains.
- Use dedicated, clean transfer equipment to avoid cross-contamination and moisture pick-up.
- Follow the safety data sheet (SDS) for personal protective equipment, spill response and disposal.
General good-practice guidance. The safety data sheet for your supplied grade always takes precedence.

08FAQ
Odourless DOP: frequently asked
What makes odourless DOP different from standard DOP?
The published specification is tighter on ester purity (99.8 % minimum against 99 % minimum for standard DOP) and the grade carries an odourless requirement. The other listed characteristics are the same.
What test methods apply to these values?
Colour, specific gravity, refractive index, acid value, moisture and heat-treatment colour are referenced to IS 9591:1996. Relative volatility and G.C. purity are referenced to RPTM.
Is odourless DOP suitable for toys or food-contact articles?
That depends on the regulations of the market and product category, which restrict phthalates in some uses. This page makes no regulatory claim; please check the requirements that apply to your product before specifying.
Can I get a sample or a COA?
Mention it in your enquiry and we will confirm availability for your quantity and grade.
