01Technical introduction
Coated Calcium Carbonate (Super-C series): overview
Coated calcium carbonate is a fine, stearic-acid treated mineral filler used to reduce cost and improve stiffness and surface finish in PVC. The coating makes the particle surface less polar, improving wetting, dispersion and processing and reducing moisture pick-up.
The Super-C series comprises four grades, Super-C-Sp, Super-C1, Super-C2 and Super-C3, with D50 from 1.2 to 2.2 µm and D97 from 8.2 to 16 µm. CaCO₃ content is 98.50 % minimum on a dry basis; whiteness is 98 ± 1 and brightness 96 ± 1 (Minolta, Japan). Coating is stated as 1.20 % stearic acid with 100 % coated surface and homogeneous coating by Hosokawa (Germany).
Benefits
- Tight published D50 and D97 for each grade, so the coarse tail can be controlled.
- High purity: CaCO₃ ≥ 98.50 % with MgO ≤ 0.20 %, SiO₂ ≤ 0.10 %, Fe₂O₃ ≤ 0.01 % and Al₂O₃ ≤ 0.01 %.
- High whiteness (98 ± 1) and brightness (96 ± 1) measured on Minolta (Japan).
- Stearic acid coating at 1.20 %, 100 % coated surface.
- Low moisture (0.10 %) and acid insoluble (0.3 % max).
- Applications span pipes, fittings, cables, conduit, door profile and foam boards.

Documentation
Technical data sheet (TDS), certificate of analysis (COA) and safety data sheet (SDS) availability depends on the grade and source. Ask for the documents you need when you request a quote and we will confirm what can be supplied for your order.
05Storage and handling
Storage and handling
- Store in a cool, dry, covered area on pallets, away from moisture and direct sunlight.
- Reseal opened bags promptly; fine powders absorb moisture and can cake or lose flow.
- Use first-in, first-out stock rotation and keep lots separate for traceability.
- Limit dust generation when handling; use suitable dust control and respiratory protection per the SDS.
General good-practice guidance. The safety data sheet for your supplied grade always takes precedence.

08FAQ
Coated Calcium Carbonate: frequently asked
Which coated grade should I start with?
Finer, tighter-D97 grades such as Super-C-Sp and Super-C1 are normally evaluated for thin-wall and finished-surface products. Coarser grades such as Super-C3 are normally evaluated where surface finish is less critical. Run trials in your own compound.
What is the stearic acid level and coverage?
Stearic acid is stated at 1.20 % with 100 % coated surface.
Are the values guaranteed for every lot?
The tables show typical specification limits. Request a certificate of analysis for lot-specific values.
Can you supply outside India?
Our company information states that we export coated and uncoated calcium carbonate. Send your destination and quantity with your enquiry.
