01Technical introduction
Lead-Based Stabilizers (Individual and One-Pack): overview
Lead-based heat stabilizers have long been used in rigid PVC where cost-effective heat stability and long processing windows are priorities, particularly pipes, fittings, conduit and cable compounds. Superior Plasto Chem supplies lead-based stabilizers both as individual salts and as lead-based one-pack systems.
The individual stabilizers listed in our range are tribasic lead sulphate (TBLS), dibasic lead stearate (DBLS), neutral lead stearate (NLS), dibasic lead phosphite (DBL Phos) and dibasic lead phthalate (DBL Phthal). Lead-based one-packs combine stabilizer, lubricants and co-additives in a single dosing step.
Lead compounds carry significant health, safety and regulatory obligations. We recommend buyers confirm the regulations that apply to their end product and destination market before specifying a lead-based system.
Benefits
- Individual salts give formulators direct control of the stabilizer package.
- One-pack systems reduce weighing steps and dosing error in a compounding line.
- Typically specified where strong long-term heat stability is needed in rigid PVC.
- Supplied as a powder; liquid lead complexes are covered on our liquid mixed-metal page.

Documentation
Technical data sheet (TDS), certificate of analysis (COA) and safety data sheet (SDS) availability depends on the grade and source. Ask for the documents you need when you request a quote and we will confirm what can be supplied for your order.
05Storage and handling
Storage and handling
- Lead compounds are classified hazardous. Store in closed, labelled containers in a dry, access-controlled area, away from food and drink.
- Avoid dust: use local exhaust ventilation, wet-cleaning or HEPA vacuums, and never dry-sweep.
- Provide washing facilities and prohibit eating, drinking and smoking in handling areas.
- Follow the SDS and applicable occupational-exposure and waste regulations for lead compounds.
General good-practice guidance. The safety data sheet for your supplied grade always takes precedence.

08FAQ
Lead-Based Stabilizers: frequently asked
Do you still recommend lead-based stabilizers?
We supply them where they remain permitted and requested. Many buyers, especially exporters, now specify lead-free systems. We offer calcium-zinc one-packs and can help you compare options for your destination market.
What is the difference between TBLS and DBLS?
TBLS is a lead sulphate based primary heat stabilizer; DBLS is a lead stearate based stabilizer that also contributes lubrication. They are frequently used together within a stabilizer package.
Can you supply a one-pack for my pipe formulation?
Please tell us the resin K-value, filler loading and process. We will discuss suitable one-pack options from our range, subject to your own trials.
